What about IN-PERSON EVENTS?

I know I’m not a big enough deal to like… make an announcement or whatever, and anyone reading this probably cares about this as much as I might when I kick a small rock along a sidewalk.

Still, I wanna say something. I’ve been trying my hand at Comic Cons (or pop culture conventions if you’re litigious like that) since 2012 and I’m no good at it.

I’ve had people, other artists, even celebrities fawn over my work. So it only made sense, right? Pay through the nose for a table in Artist Alley, pay some printer hundreds of dollars for 30 copies of the comic book that took me over 100 days to finish, then get seated across the isle from a 60-foot tower of glossy, metallic Deadpool & Harley Quinn prints made by some guy who’s been traveling from show to show since 2001. I know the game has changed since then, but I’m done. At least with that portion.

However. If I did a thing. like illustrate a graphic novel and you want me to sit behind a table at your gig or sit next to other people like me and TALK about it, I’m down. For example, a local bookstore asked me to be present as another comic book professional makes an appearance and the IndigiPop Expo asked be to be a part of a few panels in November. If my presence is requested, I’ll do it. If you want me to set up a table at your event, I’ll do my best to fill it with interesting stuff. Cool.

But paying hundreds of dollars on a financial gamble just doesn’t make sense to me. People enjoy my work… just not enough to give me a return or a profit when tabling at these events.
